About

nacac_permanency_briefing_07Through its Congressional Resource Program (CRP), CCAI strives to be an educational resource for the 200 Members of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption. Regular newsletters, legislative background reports, briefings, press conferences and round tables provide ideal opportunities for experts to communicate with interested policymakers about the barriers that hinder children from realizing their basic right to a family. CRP events are intended to further CCAI’s goal to educate policymakers the need for reform; coordinate Congressional and community efforts to bring about change; and facilitate opportunities for greater communication and awareness.

Focus Events

At least six times a year, CCAI hosts an event designed to supplement federal policymakers intuitive knowledge, often derived from charts, statistics and reports, with insights gained through personal interaction with those who live these issues every day. Whenever possible, CCAI partners with other research and advocacy organizations who have relevant answers to the specific questions Members have on the important issues.

2010 Projects

CCAI's "Foster Care Experience" Project: A highly-publicized public awareness campaign involving Members of Congress and the Administration coupled with a call-to-action for families and individuals across the U.S. to invest in the lives of children in foster care.  CCAI's "Foster Care Experience" is a walk-through exhibit showing scenes from the lives of children in foster care.  After touring the exhibit, individuals will be presented with the opportunity to mentor, foster and adopt youth.

CCAI's "Africa: The Way Forward" Summit in Washington D.C.: A high level international policy summit on permanent parental care for orphaned children in Africa.  CCAI's Summit will host representatives from the United States, Europe and Africa for a series of sessions designed to support the development of an international strategy for addressing the orphan crisis.   What we are proposing is unprecedented, and represents a significant opportunity to change the thinking and approaches taken towards orphan and foster children in Africa.  This summit aims to challenge African leaders to develop and support child welfare systems that promote permanent parental care for orphaned children.  In addition, it would strive to better align international governmental and non-governmental efforts with long-term plans developed by African leaders.
