I am a foster care alumnus who participated in the 2007 Foster Youth Internship program for the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI).  In addition, CCAI provided me with a congressional internship on Capitol Hill for Congressman Tim Holden who represents the 17th district of Pennsylvania.  During my time in Washington, D.C., I was able to help advocate for the betterment of the child welfare system and adoption by participating in various congressional hearings, briefings and events.  A highlight of my internship was when I provided a speech on Capitol Hill in front of Members of Congress, CCAI and collaborative government and private agencies.  I was offered a job on Capitol Hill by Senator Mary Landrieu who represents Louisiana.  This inspired me to obtain a graduate degree in order to return to Capitol Hill to either   write legislation regarding improving the child welfare system and adoption or lobbying.

I returned to Pennsylvania and became a Child Protective Services worker for Berks County Children and Youth Services located in Reading, PA for 2 years.  I am currently a graduate student at Kutztown University pursing a Masters in Social Work.  I am interning for the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) for the state of Pennsylvania held at the state capital in Harrisburg, PA.  NASW helps in continuing the professional development of social workers and advocates for the improvement of social policy and legislation.  My plan moving forward is to return to Washington, D.C. and help improve the child welfare system and adoption laws.

I am currently active in helping advocate for improving the foster care system and adoption by participating in events and services provided by Capitol Hill, CCAI, Foster Care Alumni of America and Foster Club.  CCAI has provided me with a lifetime opportunity by introducing me to the political world, connecting me with foster care alumni and providing me with endless opportunities to advocate for the betterment of the child welfare system and adoption.
