Foster Youth Internship Program®

The Foster Youth Internship (FYI) Program® is a summer congressional internship designed for individuals with lived experience in the U.S. foster care system. Through this program, Members of Congress as federal policymakers learn firsthand the experiences of youth who have experienced foster care, helping to shape informed legislative and policy decisions.

Throughout the summer, interns conduct in-depth research on critical federal policy issues affecting foster youth across the country, focusing on topics they are personally passionate about and are often linked to their own experience in foster care. Their findings culminate in a federal legislative policy report which is presented at briefings to the U.S. Congress, Administration, Department of Health and Human Services, and released to policymakers and advocates across the country.
