CCAI has internships for the summer, fall and spring. Internship start- and end-dates can be adjusted to fit your schedule. In addition, CCAI can assist in arranging academic credit for your internship. We require a 15-40 hour commitment per week during the fall and spring internship, and a 30-40 hour commitment per week during the summer. CCAI offers multiple positions during each session, so we encourage all to apply!
Interns have the chance to work closely with all departments during their time with CCAI, while gaining valuable experience working on Capitol Hill. There will be opportunities to work on program management, events planning, fundraising/development and grant-writing, donor outreach and fulfillment, administration, and policy and research.
The below descriptions detail activities according to our programs calendar; for more information please refer to the ‘How We Do It’ section of our website, www.ccainstitute.org. Part of the work of CCAI is managing our 5 core programs (Angels in Adoption, Foster Youth Internship Program, and National Adoption Day), and the other part is direct policy work with federal policymakers. Year-round, CCAI works closely with Congressional offices and regular communication in the form of legislative updates, newsletters, briefings, trainings, and individualized requests. There are many opportunities to learn about adoption and foster care policy on a federal level, as well as research legislation and review reports and data related to these issues.
Summer Internship Summer interns work closely with the Programs department to assist in planning the Angels in AdoptionTM Program. The primary responsibility of summer interns is to support Congressional and Angel Outreach for Angels in AdoptionTM which entails creating materials to foster participation in the program, making calls to Congressional offices to inform them of opportunities to get involved, and speaking with adoption advocates from across the country who are being honored by their Member of Congress as you assist them in planning their trip to DC. The multifaceted Angels in AdoptionTM Program allows interns to gain experience in event planning, social marketing, program management, and public relations.
Fall Internship Fall interns assist in executing the Angels in AdoptionTM Program as well as continuing to plan the events and organize the logistics. In addition, fall interns assist in coordinating Congressional participation, as well as facilitate involvement among governors, mayors, state legislators, professional sports franchises, and national organizations that represented elected officials. This entails creating resource packets to promote proclamations, event attendance, press releases, and other way to attract media attention.
Spring Internship Spring interns mainly work with the Policy department on Congressional briefings and meetings for the start of the new Congress or session. In addition, spring interns have the opportunity to work in the Programs department to develop the Foster Youth Internship program by communicating with applicants and planning for the internship program. Spring interns gain experience in working with Congress and federal policies, constituent casework, as well as event planning.
